Cancún
The Cancun fishing area is located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo and it offers a wide variety of sportfishing opportunities, from offshore charter fishing for sailfish, marlin, dorado or mahi-mahi (also called dolphin fish), wahoo, barracuda, and blackfin tuna, as well as inshore flats fishing for tarpon, permit, snook or “robalo,” and the challenge of bonefish on the fly.
Cancun is a land of ancient ruins, beautiful beaches, and warm waters full of huge fish.

Cancún
.Cancun is one of the most popular destinations in Mexico and it’s easy to see why. The Zona Hotelera stretches along the beachfront like a wall made entirely of good vibes and money. The beach has “wish you were here” written all over it. Step away from beach break central and out onto the ocean, though, and you could be in for the fight of your life, the fishing is just that good.
Cancun is a paradise for water-lovers. Known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant reefs, it’s the perfect destination for divers, snorkelers, and of course, anglers.
The fishing is so good that it’s easy to forget everything else the Cancun has to offer. Stunning coast, white sandy beaches, amazing food and great culture.
Deep Sea Fishing
Cancun’s deep sea action is, if anything, even better than the flats. Blue Marlin, White Marlin, and Sailfish can be caught here for almost half the year. Even when they’re not in town, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, and Blackfin Tuna will keep you busy.
Bottom Fishing
Cancun bottom fishing is a great family activity because it is more interactive than deep sea fishing. You drop lines straight down and deep (200 to 600 feet) in search of grouper, snapper, triggerfish and other types of reef fish.
Bottom fishing is normally more consistent year round than deep sea fishing. The fish are smaller, but they are usually good eating.
Mesoamerican Reef
Cancún sits on the world’s second-largest natural reef.

Flats Fishing
Cancun has two major fly fishing and light tackle fishing areas – the lagoons surrounding the Cancun Hotel Zone, and the unspoiled waters of Isla Blanca, legendary for its bonefishing.
Both areas are teeming with bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook, snapper, barracuda, and jacks. Summer is best for bonefish and permit, while the others are good year round.
Cancún has incredible flats fishing. You can wander out from your hotel and be battling Bonefish within minutes
Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, and Snook, otherwise known as an Inshore Super Grand Slam. There are also Jacks, Barracuda, and several other top game species.
Roosterfish, Jacks, Snook, and Sierra Mackerel can all be caught along the local beaches. The calm, pristine waters of the area have made it possible for gigantic Roosterfish to thrive here, and they will be your prized catch on inshore excursions. Jacks are another local favorite, so you can look forward to reeling in beauties like Bigeye Trevally, Jack Crevalle, Green Jack, and Yellowtail. Mackerel of all shapes and sizes are a common catch too, as well as Snappers, Groupers, and peculiar Needlefish.
The local flats are a fly angler’s dream, with Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, and Snook, all just waiting for that perfectly-placed fly.
Hit the flats, and you could spend hour after hour sight wrestling with super-sized Snook
Isla Blanca Flats
Fewer people and mile after mile of mud, sand, and grass flats. The area’s home to Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, and Snook, otherwise known as an Inshore Super Grand Slam. There are also Jacks, Barracuda, and several other top game species, in case you still needed more.
Spearfishing
Spearfishing in Cancun is a great activity for spearfishermen of all skill levels. Cancun offers coral heads, ledges, drop-offs, shipwrecks, and deep blue water at varying depths. Guides will take you to the fishing spots that best suit your spearfishing experience. With year-round temperatures around 28 ºC, you’ll enjoy the warm water, awesome visibility, and a wide variety of fish for the feast.
Fish: Amberjack, wahoo, barracuda, grouper, snapper, lionfish, yellow jack, hogfish, permit, mahi-mahi, mackerel.
