Cozumel
The Cozumel fishing area is located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo and it offers a wide variety of sportfishing opportunities, from offshore charter fishing for sailfish, marlin, dorado or mahi-mahi (also called dolphin fish), wahoo, barracuda, and blackfin tuna, as well as inshore flats fishing for tarpon, permit, snook or “robalo,” and the challenge of bonefish on the fly.
Cozumel is a land of ancient ruins, beautiful beaches, and warm waters full of huge fish.

Cozumel
Cozumel is one of the most popular destinations in Mexico and it’s easy to see why. The beach has “wish you were here” written all over it. Step away from beach break central and out onto the ocean, though, and you could be in for the fight of your life, the fishing is just that good.
Cozumel is a paradise for water-lovers. Known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant reefs, it’s the perfect destination for divers, snorkelers, and of course, anglers.
The fishing is so good that it’s easy to forget everything else that Cozumel has to offer. Stunning coast, white sandy beaches, amazing food and great culture.
Deep Sea Fishing
What can we say? It’s just so, so good. Blue and White Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and a few Tuna to round it all off. Most of the fishing grounds are right next to town but you can drop right off the edge of the continent if you’re up for the long haul east.
Going to the deep blue waters and beyond is one of the prime reasons why anglers from all corners of the planet come here.
If you heading out in search of big game pelagics like Marlin and Sailfish, chances are you will be trolling. This is the most common style of deep sea fishing Cozumel offers and the local guides are awesome at getting those big billfish chasing after your boat.
Bottom Fish
Mesoamerican Reef
Cozumel sits on the world’s second-largest natural reef. Head out in any direction and you’ll find Grouper, Snapper, Hogfish, Triggerfish, Amberjack, and Barracuda.
Go a mile out in any direction and you hit vibrant coral reef. Here you have Cubera Snapper, several species of Grouper, Hogfish, Triggerfish, and bite after bite of big, toothy Barracuda.
With so many great reef species around, bottom fishing around Cozumel is not exactly rocket science. The big, year-round population of Barracuda can sometimes make hooking a fish the easy part.

Flats Fishing
Cozumel’s lagoons hold every species you could think to ask for. Permit, Snook, Tarpon, Bonefish, Mangrove Snappers, Jacks – you name it, they’re here. They start just a mile from town and cover the entire northern shore of the island, so you won’t struggle to find good fishing.
Cozumel has incredible flats fishing. You can wander out from your hotel and be battling Bonefish within minutes.
Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, and Snook, otherwise known as an Inshore Super Grand Slam. There are also Jacks, Barracuda, and several other top game species.
Roosterfish, Jacks, Snook, and Sierra Mackerel can all be caught along the local beaches. The calm, pristine waters of the area have made it possible for gigantic Roosterfish to thrive here, and they will be your prized catch on inshore excursions. Jacks are another local favorite, so you can look forward to reeling in beauties like Bigeye Trevally, Jack Crevalle, Green Jack, and Yellowtail. Mackerel of all shapes and sizes are a common catch too, as well as Snappers, Groupers, and peculiar Needlefish.
The local flats are a fly angler’s dream, with Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, and Snook, all just waiting for that perfectly-placed fly.
Hit the flats, and you could spend hour after hour sight wrestling with super-sized Snook
Inshore fishing – particularly flats fishing, is a whole different world to the reefs and pelagic waters. The boats you will be on will be much smaller, and the tackle will be as light as possible. What Cozumel’s flats are really about is fly fishing. Snook, Permit, Bonefish, and Tarpon all scream fly gear, and many boats will stock their own. You will of course be welcome to bring yours, as many fly anglers do. If you are really into this style of fishing, Cozumel is the perfect place to try for the fly fishing Grand Slam.
Spearfishing
An amazing experience where you hunt under the water. Your guide will lead you through the most beautiful, shallow reefs while spearing some Grouper, Snapper, Lobster or even some Octopus.
Spearfishing in Cozumel is an experience like no other. Most spearfishing spots in Cozumel are only a twenty-minute boat ride from shore. Considered to be one of the top five dive sites in the entire world, Cozumel’s privileged geographic location has placed the beautiful Meso-american Reef between the coastline of the mainland and the coastline of the island. The result? Spectacular views, calm waters, and abundant marine life in caves, shipwrecks, and at exciting drop-offs. Depending on your spearfishing skills, we’ll either fish at various depths off the coast of Cozumel or head out further into deeper waters.
