Puerto Aventuras
Puerto Aventuras is a land of ancient ruins, beautiful beaches, and warm waters full of huge fish.
The Puerto Aventuras fishing area is located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo and it offers a wide variety of sport fishing opportunities, from offshore charter fishing for sailfish, marlin, dorado or mahi-mahi (also called dolphin fish), wahoo, barracuda, and blackfin tuna, as well as inshore flats fishing for tarpon, permit, snook or “robalo,” and the challenge of bonefish on the fly.
Fishing is so good that it’s easy to forget everything else Puerto Aventuras has to offer. Stunning coastlines, white sandy beaches, amazing food and great culture.

Deep Sea Fishing
Puerto Aventura’s warm fishing waters all along this stretch of Mexico’s Caribbean coast benefit from an abundance of upwelling and nutrient stimulating currents resulting from turbulence caused by local reefs, islands, and points, beginning the proverbial food chain that attracts a variety of fish to the area. This effect is particularly important between the coast and the island of Cozumel where an underwater trench brings deep water very close to shore and allows sport-fishing to begin within minutes of departing the marina.
Going to the deep blue waters and beyond is one of the prime reasons why anglers from all corners of the planet come here.
Bottom Fish
Mesoamerican Reef
Puerto Aventuras bottom fishing is a great family activity because it is more interactive than deep sea fishing. You drop lines straight down and deep (200 to 600 feet) in search of grouper, snapper, triggerfish and other types of reef fish.
Bottom fishing is normally more consistent year round than deep sea fishing. The fish are smaller, but they are usually good eating.

Flats Fishing
Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, and Snook, otherwise known as an Inshore Super Grand Slam. There are also Jacks, Barracuda, and several other top game species.
Roosterfish, Jacks, Snook, and Sierra Mackerel can all be caught along the local beaches. The calm, pristine waters of the area have made it possible for gigantic Roosterfish to thrive here, and they will be your prized catch on inshore excursions. Jacks are another local favorite, so you can look forward to reeling in beauties like Bigeye Trevally, Jack Crevalle, Green Jack, and Yellowtail. Mackerel of all shapes and sizes are a common catch too, as well as Snappers, Groupers, and peculiar Needlefish.
The local flats are a fly angler’s dream, with Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, and Snook, all just waiting for that perfectly-placed fly.
Isla Blanca Flats
You can wander out from your hotel and be battling Bonefish within minutes. Fewer people and mile after mile of mud, sand, and grass flats. The area’s home to Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, and Snook, otherwise known as an Inshore Super Grand Slam. There are also Jacks, Barracuda, and several other top game species, in case you still needed more.
Spear Fishing
Join in on this amazing experience where you hunt under the water. A master guide will lead you through the most beautiful, shallow reefs while spearing some Grouper, Snapper, Lobster or even some Octopus.
Fishing Season
Puerto Aventuras fishing seasons depend on what you’re after. Billfish and inshore species are best in spring and summer, while the reefs are most active over winter. Puerto Aventuras fishing is amazing all year round, though. You can catch great gamefish on the flats and food fish on the reefs every month of the year. Marlin and Sailfish may tail off in the cooler months, but Wahoo and Tuna are always around and King Mackerel are at their peak.
You’ll find barracuda, grouper, red snapper and others year round and from April to August you have mahi-mahi, wahoo and tuna and of course countless Sailfish in the winter months.
