Mazatlán
Mazatlan sportfishing is excellent year round, featuring Pacific Sailfish, Dorado (Mahi Mahi), Wahoo and massive Yellowfin Tuna, with Striped Marlin common during the winter months, and the warm summertime waters bringing massive Blue and Black Marlin to Mazatlan. Mako Shark is also caught in the area.
Year-round fishing is available in the ever-popular seaport and coastal resort of Mazatlán; striped marlin, pompano, bonito, red snapper and tuna are the main catches in these waters and there are frequent trips daily from the docks just across the way from the city’s main square.
Family fishing trips are available with our kids program. We focus on snappers or small bonefish, either with spinning rods or handlines for kids younger than 6 years. They will love the action!
Fishing is so good that it’s easy to forget everything else Mazatlán has to offer. Stunning coastlines, golden sandy beaches, amazing food and great culture.

Bottom Fishing
The Bottom Fishing Experience: This is a very exciting technique for everyone and definitely a good one for beginners and kids. In bottom fishing, you throw the lines with hook, bait and weight until they reach the bottom. That’s where lots of fish like Grouper, Red Snapper, Trigger Fish, Amberjack, Gulf Grouper, Mojarra, Spadefish, Flounder, Puffer Fish and many other are waiting for you to catch them!!
Inshore Fishing
Mazatlan’s coastline is littered with mangroves and estuaries that are perfect for inshore sportfishing. Snook and Roosterfish are the main targets and are bucket list species for anglers worldwide. You’ll also find plenty of Jack Crevalle and tasty Pacific Pompano, as well as a local favorite, Corvina.
Close to the shore, catch snook, amberjack, grouper, roosterfish, red snapper and other surface and bottom fish species. While larger fish in general prefer the cooler deeper waters of the Pacific,
Mazatlan offers a huge variety of spots for bottom fishing. There’s dozens of submerged reefs that often have many great fish like Red Snapper, Snook, White Seabass, Trigger fish, Grouper, Jack Crevalle, permit and the ultimate surf warrior Rooster fish. There are also lots of shipwrecks that are incredibly fun to fish.
Inshore bottom fishing at Mazatlan is good for an unusually wide variety of species including snook, true red snapper or huachinango, triggerfish, sierra, various grouper and bass species, roosterfish, pompano, corvina, mixed jacks, mojarra, and a large variety of assorted surface and bottom fish species. Guided surf fishing along beaches north of the city can be excellent for roosterfish into the 30-pound class.

The most famous bottom fishing spots in Mazatlan are the rocks around Stone and Goat Island, The Cardones rock, the Lighthouse, The Brother’s rock, The Sea Lions Rock, and The Three Islands. These are all very well reputed shallow rocky spots along Mazatlan coast line. Of course, we will also fish on shipwrecks and other reef spots that wouldn’t like to disclose right now!!!!
The shallows are just as good, with hard-fighting Snook and Roosterfish combing the bays in search of food.
Mangrove Fishing
World Class Snook Fishing minutes away from Mazatlán.
Yes, we do Mangrove Fishing!! The best fishing spots are located in a little town nearby Mazatlán called Teacapán, Sinaloa. It is a very calm place which is located at the mouth of an spectacular and huge (30 miles long) estuary where there are lots of Snook, White Sea Bass, Red Snapper, Grouper and Trigger Fish. This place is known as the “best Snook fishing in Sinaloa” and attracts many anglers every year.
Mangrove Fishing
Just outside of Mazatlan, go casting, trolling, bottom fishing and fly fishing in the small village of Tescapán. Fish for snook, red snapper, white sea bass, grouper and trigger fish in a large estuary surrounded by mangroves and stretching for 30 miles. Calm waters, an abundance of fish and scenic surroundings make the mangroves attractive; while you can find substantial fishing year round, the best time to catch large numbers of fish is during the winter and spring months.
Shore fishing
Fish from the beach or from El Cid Marina itself and you can catch Jack Crevalle, Corvina, and even Snapper, as well as the occasional Snook or Bigeye Trevally.
Surf fishing along beaches north of the city can be excellent for roosterfish into the 30-pound class.
Lake Fishing
Mazatlan Bass fishing trips run out to Lake El Salto, just an hour inland. The lake has been dubbed the “Bass capital of Mexico” due to its 10 lb + Largemouth – monsters by Mexican standards. Mazatlan also offers freshwater black bass fishing at two nearby world famous lakes, El Salto and Comedero.
Fishing Season
Mazatlan is one of the best sport fishing locations in the world. 7 out the 9 species reserved for sport fishing worldwide are available in the waters around Mazatlán. The fishing is excellent all year with different species from season to season. Winter is usually good for striped marlin, tuna, red snapper, white seabass and summer for blue marlin, mahi mahi and many others.
This range of water temperatures brings major offshore fish species such as striped marlin during the cooler water winter months of December through May, and warm water game fish such as sailfish, dorado, and black and blue marlin from June through November. Offshore runs also catch yellowfin tuna, wahoo and mako shark, and are generally of medium length, averaging about 20 to 25 miles, and generally towards the southwest.
Inshore fishing, usually from super pangas or similar boats, can be so productive in nearby Mazatlan waters during the warmer months.
