Welcome To
Puerto Peñasco
In the past few years, Puerto Peñasco has become a very popular and favorite destination for those with an adventurous spirit. For those, relaxing in the sun along the beach isn’t enough, Puerto Peñasco offers snorkeling and scuba diving.
Puerto Peñasco is noted for the “largest aquarium in the world” under the waters of the Sea of Cortez. After taking a view dives, you’ll really enjoy all the diversity of sea life in the crystal blue waters of the sea.

Playa Encanto
Located about 20 minutes outside of the town of Puerto Peñasco and is home to some of the most exclusive properties and strips of beach that Sonora, Mexican has to offer.
Pelican Beach
Pelican Beach sets itself apart from the rest as one of the premier locations in the Puerto Peñasco area for watching wildlife, making your Beach Vacation especially memorable! It is also a great place to go looking for fresh grub such as clams and crabs! There are also pods of dolphins that can often been seen passing through the water. Pelican Beach is focused on maintaining the beautiful natural habitat as much as possible.
Playa Bonita
This sandy wonder is nearest to town and has a nice influx of visitors, meaning there is a big focus on upkeep. Playing at Playa Bonita may include observing the ocean life through the ocean waters, kite surfing with the pleasant breeze, or being graced with one of the beach side horseback rides which are available.
Shore Snorkeling
The crystal-clear waters of the ocean along Rocky Point offer great locations for swimming, beach going, and especially snorkeling. The natural collection of coral and marine life makes the ocean area a great location to do some Rocky Point snorkeling.
Sandy Beach
The warm waters of Sandy Beach provide for a great location for Puerto Peñasco snorkeling. This location allows for snorkeling straight from the beach and gives you a crystal-clear look at the ocean floor. The shallow nature of the sand dunes in this area provide plenty of places that fish love to congregate. You will surely get a great show if you snorkel Puerto Penasco at Sandy Beach.
Tucson Beach
Tucson Beach is another location in which you can go snorkeling in Puerto Penasco by taking off from the beach. The beach is located near Cholla Bay and Playa Mirador (also known as Manny’s). The ocean is also clear at this location, but with a few different habitats and marine life available to view. Tucson Beach is a picturesque location for snorkeling because of its scenic views and calm waters that are generally guarded from factors that would normally disrupt snorkeling, such as strong wind and water currents.
Golden Beach
The third beach in Puerto Peñasco to snorkel at off of the beach. The ocean continues its clarity here and the beach itself is a perfect place to lay out in the sun and dry off after you’re done.

Cholla Bay
Another way to enjoyPuerto Peñasco snorkeling is to snorkel off of a boat. Cholla Bay has many companies that you can charter a boat from that allow you to take a snorkeling excursion and see a different habitat than the rest of Rocky Point’s snorkeling locales. Since the Bay is quite a bit deeper than the beach access snorkel locations, you will be able to see more marine life. Like Tucson Beach, it is also largely protected from wind and extreme currents, making it easier to navigate.
Great Snorkeling Spots
In this area include the water right outside of JJ’s Cantina and Pinto Point on the southern side of the peninsula for intermediate and advanced snorkelers.
Between Cholla Bay and the city, you’ll find excellent snorkeling about fifty feet out into the water in front of the Reef Club along Rocky Beach. Here, you can encounter shovelnose guitarfish, a species of primitive ray that has features of both rays and sharks. It is entirely unique to the region extending from the Gulf of California to central California, making it a one-of-a-kind sighting during your Rocky Point snorkeling adventure.
Isla San Jorge
Otherwise known as Bird Island, this location offers visitors with a unique spot to snorkel and see the island’s wildlife up-close. Island San Jorge offers both beach snorkeling and boat snorkeling. You can see the rocky edge of the island while snorkeling, which houses many different species of marine animals and birds that you will not see elsewhere.
Mirador Beach
It is nearby most of the famous attractions and destinations of downtown Puerto Peñasco. The Old Port’s Malecon is a must-see for those looking to enjoy local entertainment, shopping, and dining. At the Malecon in Rocky Point, you can listen to a concert of local musicians, shop for souvenirs, or sit on the patio of a restaurant and enjoy the gorgeous Mexican sunset. Mirador Beach is also the place to be for those looking to enjoy the nightlife of Rocky Point. It is no secret that the town is popular spring break destination. Mirador Beach boasts some of the town’s favorite bars such as Pink Cadillac and the Baja Cantina. Soak up the sun on the shore during the day, and party the night away once the sun goes down at Mirador Beach!
Mayan Palace Beach
Is truly the pinnacle of a beautiful and luxurious ocean side vacation, just outside of Puerto Peñasco. Whether you are looking for a relaxing beach getaway, an upscale resort experience, or a chance to interact with local wildlife, the Mayan Palace Rocky Point Beach is a must-visit on your expedition to Rocky Point!
Morua Estuary
Las Conchas is a secluded 6-mile stretch of beach that is separated from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Rocky Point. These rolling sandy beaches provide pristine shorelines for sunbathing, swimming, or exploring. The nearby Morua Estuary is the premier place in Rocky Point to observe and interact with the natural wildlife. The Morua Estuary is protected by the environmental organization CEDO, which translated to English stands for the Intercultural Center of Desert and Ocean Studies. This organization is dedicated to preserving the biodiversity of the area.
