Experience Tulum
Tulum is a land of ancient ruins, beautiful beaches, and warm waters full of huge fish.

Tulum is a paradise for water-lovers. Known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant reefs, it’s the perfect destination for divers, snorkelers, and of course, anglers.
If it’s big food fish you’re after, you don’t have to look far.
Fishing is so good that it’s easy to forget everything else Tulum has to offer. Stunning coastlines, white sandy beaches, amazing food and great culture.

Deep Sea Fishing
Seasonal offshore charter fishing at Tulum can be excellent for Atlantic sailfish during the spring-summer months of April through about late July when fly tackle enthusiasts may get a dozen shots a day on this species. The same spring-summer Tulum fishing season also offers peak opportunities for dorado, and white and blue marlin. April-May is considered Tulum’s peak fishing season for sailfish and white marlin, and at this time broadbill swordfish and shortbilled spearfish may also be sometimes encountered.
Tulum sport fishing opportunities during the fall-winter period of September through January are peak for inshore grouper, snapper, and mixed jacks such as amberjack. The deep winter months of February and March can bring windy periods, as can passing tropical storms during late the summer months centered on September.
Bottom Fish
Mesoamerican Reef
Tulum bottom fishing is a great family activity because it is more interactive than deep sea fishing. You drop lines straight down and deep (200 to 600 feet) in search of grouper, snapper, triggerfish and other types of reef fish.
Bottom fishing is normally more consistent year round than deep sea fishing. The fish are smaller, but they are usually good eating.
Bottom Fishing: Grouper, Black Grouper, Mutton Snapper, Yellow Tail Snapper.
Flats Fishing
If you are looking for good flats fishing in Tulum or fishing for bonefish, fishing for tarpon, fishing for permit or fishing for snook, without a doubt, world famous Bocapaila and Ascension Bay flats are your best choice.
Bonefishing in Ascension Bay and Bocapaila, Yucatán, Mexico
Ascension Bay is well known for it’s endless wading flats, mangrove lagoons, channels and coral reefs. Pesca Maya is located right on the northern side of the bay, having access to over 100,000 acres of flats, some wadable, some soft, that request a boat. Renowned by anglers for their wariness and fighting spirit, bonefish are stealthy and speedy residents of these shallow flats. Although they are not usually consumed by people, bonefish are a major target of sport anglers, becoming a pillar of the recreational fishing industry.
Without any doubt, the great bonefishing pleasure is to spot the fish, cast, strip, see the fish following, feel the bite, set the hook and listen your reel scream while bonefish pulls your line, stronger, pound per pound, than most fish. It sounds simple, but it takes angler’s best skills to catch bonefish.
Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, and Snook, otherwise known as an Inshore Super Grand Slam. There are also Jacks, Barracuda, and several other top game species.
particularly flats fishing, is a whole different world to the reefs and pelagic waters.
Roosterfish, Jacks, Snook, and Sierra Mackerel can all be caught along the local beaches. The calm, pristine waters of the area have made it possible for gigantic Roosterfish to thrive here, and they will be your prized catch on inshore excursions. Jacks are another local favorite, so you can look forward to reeling in beauties like Bigeye Trevally, Jack Crevalle, Green Jack, and Yellowtail. Mackerel of all shapes and sizes are a common catch too, as well as Snappers, Groupers, and peculiar Needlefish.
The local flats are a fly angler’s dream, with Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, and Snook, all just waiting for that perfectly-placed fly.
Hit the flats, and you could spend hour after hour sight wrestling with super-sized Snook
Isla Blanca Flats
Fewer people and mile after mile of mud, sand, and grass flats. The area’s home to Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, and Snook, otherwise known as an Inshore Super Grand Slam. There are also Jacks, Barracuda, and several other top game species, in case you still needed more.
Spearfishing
Spearfishing in Tulum is the perfect combination of mesmerizing blue hues of the Caribbean Sea and some spectacular views (and hunting) at coral heads, ledges, deep blue waters. In fact, with the amazing Mayan ruins of Tulum towering over the Caribbean Sea, no other destination offers the type of eye candy that includes both land and seascapes. Fishing here is spectacular, as is the visibility. Combine that with some rest and relaxation on what are arguably some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and you’ll be spearfishing in style in Tulum.

Fishing Season
Tulum fishing seasons depend on what you’re after. Billfish and inshore species are best in spring and summer, while the reefs are most active over winter. Tulum fishing is amazing all year round, though. You can catch great gamefish on the flats and food fish on the reefs every month of the year. Marlin and Sailfish may tail off in the cooler months, but Wahoo and Tuna are always around and King Mackerel are at their peak.
You’ll find barracuda, grouper, red snapper and others year round and from April to August you have mahi-mahi, wahoo and tuna and of course countless Sailfish in the winter months.
