A true heaven for deep sea anglers.

If it’s big food fish you’re after, you don’t have to look far.

Loreto is a paradise for water-lovers. Known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant reefs, it’s the perfect destination for divers, snorkelers, and of course, anglers.

Fishing is so good that it’s easy to forget everything else that Loreto has to offer. Stunning coastlines, white sandy beaches, amazing food and great culture.

Deep Sea Fishing

With close to 365 days of sun, fishing charters leave daily. Although the winter months is the peak of fishing season for sailfish and dorado, these and other fish can be caught year round.

An unforgettable experience
Loreto has something for everyone. Exhilarating and captivating, this is one adventure you will remember for a lifetime.

Loreto is one of the best big game fishing destinations

Year-round fishing is available here; marlin, pompano, bonito, red snapper and tuna are the main catches in these waters.

On top we have the summer fun fish; dorado, striped and blue marlin, sailfish, roosterfish, sierra and occasionally, wahoo and yellowfin tuna.

Two very pronounced fishing seasons on two very different and highly-prized game fish: dorado in the summer months, and yellowtail in winter.

Late June through October see the migration of dolphin fish (dorado) in the open sea of Isla Carmen

Bottom Fish

Looking to enoy a bountiful day on the water, then you’ll like the inshore fishing Loreto boasts. The calm, pristine waters of the area have made it possible for gigantic Roosterfish to thrive here, and they will be your prized catch on inshore excursions. Jacks are another local favorite, so you can look forward to reeling in beauties like Bigeye Trevally, Jack Crevalle, Green Jack, and Yellowtail. Mackerel of all shapes and sizes are a common catch too, as well as Snappers, Groupers, and peculiar Needlefish. A rare delight is the Black Snook that can make an appearance in the inshore waters from July to October, and these fellas can weigh as much as 40 pounds.

Still, Roosterfish remain the best catch, not just because they come in impressive sizes, but also because they’re smart and hard fighters.

Inshore fishing at Loreto features jack crevalle called “yellowtail jack” locally, roosterfish, ladyfish, various snappers, groupers, sierra, barracuda, and other fish species caught right off the local surf line, or along other points on the nearby coast.

Inshore: Roosterfish, Jack Cravel, Spanish Mackeral, Skip Jack, Black Tuna, Needlefish, Grooper, Big Eye Jack and others.

Year round fish include the bottom fish: Snappers, pargo, cabrilla(sea bass), pinto bass, yellowtail, amberjack, white fish, etc.

The waters off Isla Coronado and the reefs along the coast offer exceptional opportunities for large yellow tail catches via lure casting, jigging, or fly fish. Roosterfish are also available January through April

Flyfishing

Loreto is most popular during the May through August period when the dorado arrive in great numbers and are most vulnerable to fly-fishermen and light tackle anglers, however, this quiet palm shaded village on the Sea of Cortez offers outstanding fishing year round. At certain times of the year, yellowtail, yellowfin tuna, marlin and sailfish show up and the inshore fishing for grouper, cabrilla and roosterfish is almost always available.

Fishing Season

Loreto fishing seasons depend on what you’re after. Billfish and inshore species are best in spring and summer, while the reefs are most active over winter. Loreto fishing is amazing all year round, though. You can catch great gamefish on the flats and food fish on the reefs every month of the year. Marlin and Sailfish may tail off in the cooler months, but Wahoo and Tuna are always around and King Mackerel are at their peak.

You’ll find barracuda, grouper, red snapper and others year round and from April to August you have mahi-mahi, wahoo and tuna and of course countless Sailfish in the winter months.
